June’s Blooms and the Stories They’re Telling
The Narcissus and Tulips have said their goodbyes, and the Ranunculus and Anemones are beginning to head out too. As the cool season wraps up, so do its floral stars. June arrives as a quiet moment in the flower world—after spring’s showstoppers, but before the bold, heat-loving blooms of summer take the stage.
June is a threshold month. Spring’s freshness still lingers, but summer’s energy is stirring. We’re seeing the first snapdragons reaching skyward and early sunflowers beginning to open, setting the scene for a season full of color and confidence.
This is a time of transition—and the flowers are mirroring us. After the unpredictability of spring, we’re finally packing away sweaters for good and leaning into warm evenings, backyard BBQs, and the sweet magic of community life. We're looking forward to concerts on the Railroad Green, Saturday markets filled with familiar faces, and long afternoons with friends at a local winery (or brewery… we’ve got a few beautiful ones of those, too!). If you’ve got kids, you're likely juggling end-of-school chaos with visions of sprinklers and popsicles.
And the flowers are right there with us.
Snapdragons with their playful poses, Dianthus in all their spicy-sweet glory, Larkspur rising tall and dreamy, Salvias offering deep, steady blues (in the flower world, many things purple are called blue… because, why not?)—they’re the quiet companions to this seasonal pause. Not demanding attention, but grounding us in the beauty of what is, right now.
So let’s savor this in-between. The cool mornings. The (occasional) sun between our late spring storms. The slower pace when we can catch our breath. Bring a few stems into your kitchen, and let June’s simple sweetness remind you: it’s okay to linger here, before summer rushes in—loud and full of color.
